Notes
We are happy to announce the release of Job Ant Weasel, the fourth chapter in our tribute series dedicated to the album Bee Thousand by the legendary Guided By Voices. Following the previous releases, this fourth volume once again explores the creative universe of a record that, since 1994, has left an indelible mark on the global indie and lo-fi scene. Bee Thousand was the seventh album by Guided By Voices, recorded in a handcrafted way on a four-track recorder with improvised micro-recordings, and it became a manifesto of distorted, imaginative pop-punk energy.
The name Job Ant Weasel is no coincidence. If you look closely, it hides a play of assonance and humor that mirrors the very spirit of Bee Thousand. In the original title Bee Thousand, you can sense a sonic and symbolic vibration bouncing between Bee and Thousand, playing with phonemes and references, including names like Pete Townshend of The Who in the stories surrounding the original title.
Job Ant Weasel : John Entwistle = Bee Thousand : Pete Townshend.
Just as the phrase Bee Thousand was inspired by sounds, wordplay, and pop culture in the 1990s, the name Job Ant Weasel draws from similar paths of transformation, citation, and a love for deconstructed listening: a shifted homage, a meta-phrase that carries with it the echo of another great name in rock history.
In Job Ant Weasel you will find artists, friends, and fellow travelers who reinterpret, reinvent, and honor the songs and the aesthetic of Bee Thousand with personal, bold, and often surprising visions. It is a tribute conceived not only for fans of Guided By Voices, but for anyone who loves indie rock in its most free and spontaneous form.
