Let me introduce you The End.
THE END were formed back in the Eighties when, it was quoted, they sounded like an “intriguing cross between The Jam and Depeche Mode”! With a changing personnel throughout the Eighties, Nineties, Noughties, whatever terminology we are using for the 2020’s era, and right up to now, the one constant member has been Alan Saint. With the addition of Liverpudlian guitar supremo, Simon Noble, the duo have, post-Covid, released 2 albums (“Passed Times” 2021 and “”Nothing is Real” 2024) and 3 singles. They are currently working together on albums 3 and 4 as well as Simon’s solo album. In addition, an EP comprised of songs that Alan wrote back in 1986 is also very firmly in the pipeline and due to be released in the summer of 2025.
Of “I Am a Scientist” The End have said it was an absolute honour and privilege recording that particular song for the anniversary of Guided by Voices’ “Bee Thousand” album, and they felt a huge weight of responsibility to get such classic track right – they hope they have succeeded and that it stands up as the honest, heart-felt tribute to the original song it was intended to be.
Stepping back in time for a sec, on a side note, sometime during the Eighties (or maybe the Nineties), Nick Brelsford and Darren Fox – commonly known as Tom Violence – gave Alan a cassette tape of guitar and vocal demos that he subsequently re-arranged, re-recorded and gave back to them. Then, some 30+ years later, Alan’s interpretations of those demos subsequently ended up on the Tom Violence albums “Definite Limits” and “Everything We Found”. Tom Violence also recently reformed, with Alan providing noise/keyboards/vocals (and production) and Darren acoustic guitar, to cover The Jesus & Mary Chain’s “Never Understand” for the upcoming J&MC tribute album.
