Released in 2019 by Almost Halloween Time Records, “The Measured Mile” by Sundog is one of those records that seems to arrive from some undefined point in music history.
Behind the name Sundog is Jonathan Nankof, a guitarist and composer connected to the Boston music scene and the New England Conservatory. His music emerges from a meeting point between folk, blues, guitar experimentation and a deeply personal sensibility.
“The Measured Mile” is a collection of sixteen tracks moving through an oblique, intimate and psychedelic form of folk. There are short songs such as Being Measured, Ninety Three and I Grew My Hair, more extended pieces such as Light Up My Room, Teach Me No Thing and Physical Chord, and a series of small fragments that seem to function as stations along the journey suggested by the album’s title.
