Thursday, and in the studio time crackles like a needle on vinyl.
This is Luigi speaking.
At the beginning of 2025, I wrote to Spare Snare with a simple, almost hesitant question: would you be interested in releasing something together? Their reply landed like a perfectly struck drum. Yes.
From there, a quiet obsession took shape. One hundred and five copies. Not one more. Each one paired with a 12” that doesn’t just play, it breathes color. I work from one hundred photographs Jan took, reshaping them, listening in silence, and then painting them. By hand. Each piece becomes a different echo of the same record, as if the music decided to change skin a hundred and five times.
The collection Jan assembled feels less like a straight timeline and more like a pulse. From the very first single in 1992 to Twenty Six Letters in 2025. Everything is in there: the early urgency, the detours, the sparks that refuse to fade. Spare Snare have that rare quality of sounding like they might let a song fall apart at any second… and then holding it together with two invisible threads and a melody that lingers.
Side A and Side B, exactly as they were delivered to the pressing plant. No digital surgery, no scattering into separate tracks. It’s a whole object, like a room you step into and close the door behind you.
The vinyl is black, classic, with an insert signed by the band. But the real pulse of the project lives elsewhere: between my paint-stained hands and their songs humming while I work.
Half of the copies will be available through Almost Halloween Time Records. The remaining ones will be available directly from the band. A clean split, like two sides of the same record that don’t compete, they complete each other. The vinyl has already been pressed. I’m finishing the paintings. That’s the slow part, the one you can’t rush without losing something. In the first week of August, everything will ship out. Parcels drifting outward like small domestic constellations.
Pre-order goes live tomorrow at 8am.
And yes, every copy carries a slightly different story.
Even if they all play the same record.
