Notes

This session was recorded at Cantine Polvanera, if you have never been there, I highly recommend it. There is a cellar carved into the rock, a hole under the ground, in the heart of the countryside of Gioia del Colle, Puglia, Italy. On the walls hundreds of bottles of Primitivo red wine are resting. There is a long corridor suspended in mid-air, protected by thin metal barriers that allow glimpses of tables and stools, more bottles of wine are there listening in silence. The light is strange in there, it makes you feel safe. There are ancient lathes and winemaking tools, it makes you imagine a life underground and a life spent drinking only wine.

Simon Joyner came to Italy last winter and he played at Cantine Polvanera for a real audience but he also played for us and the bottle of wines.

This recording is a snapshot of that incredible afternoon.

It was pure magic.
